Background

The Emilia Romagna region plays the role of a national "hub" because of its strategic geographic location between the southern shores of the Mediterranean, the Near East and continental Europe and also because of the presence in the territory of the most important national rail and road infrastructures.

In recent years it has reconfirmed its position as Italy's second-largest export region, accounting for 10 percent of total regional exports and 16 percent of Italy's entire agri-food exports, confirming Emilia Romagna's role as a driving force for the entire national system, thanks to its high quality productions and a well-organized and consolidated business system.

The agricultural and agri-food sectors were the ones that did not stop during the Covid-19 emergency, ensuring the continuity of production and food supply for the entire community.

Germany remains the main export market for our agri-food excellences, with a share of 17.37%, followed by France (14.11%), the United States (8.04%), the United Kingdom (7.38%).

The Emilia Romagna region has a network of agrifood centers and wholesale markets spread throughout the territory of great value for the service they provide to the local economic system. This network consists of 19 market structures including 3 Agri-food Centers those of Bologna, Parma, Rimini, 8 fruit and vegetable markets, 6 fish markets, poultry market and 1 livestock market.
